Title: “Breaking News: FreeNAS and TrueNAS Merge to Create Ultimate Open Source Storage Solution”

FreeNAS, the beloved open source operating system for NAS devices, and TrueNAS, its powerful enterprise counterpart, are coming together to form one unstoppable force. The new unified OS, aptly named TrueNAS, promises to revolutionize the storage industry with its unparalleled capabilities.

A Match Made in Tech Heaven: FreeNAS and TrueNAS Join Forces

After years of being led by iXsystems, the creators of TrueNAS, the two operating systems have finally merged into one single entity. This bold move was announced recently by iXsystems, citing 95% shared source code between FreeNAS 11.3 and TrueNAS 11.3.

Say Hello to TrueNAS: The All-in-One Storage Solution

The new TrueNAS will offer two editions: TrueNAS CORE, the open source version, and TrueNAS Enterprise, the commercial version with exclusive enterprise management and support. Based on the free and open source FreeBSD OS, TrueNAS CORE promises rapid development and early availability for its loyal community.

Why the Name Change?

As much as we love FreeNAS, calling an enterprise-grade product “free” may not go over well with corporate clients, hence the name change. But rest assured, TrueNAS will continue to carry on the legacy of FreeNAS and offer the same, if not better, features and functionalities.

Exciting Features to Look Forward to

With TrueNAS 12, expect new and game-changing features such as Fusion Pools, which allows for a mix of SSD and HDD vdevs or disk pools, and support for encrypted datasets. The much-awaited nightly preview builds are set to release on March 11th, giving users a taste of what’s to come.
