<iXsystems REVEALS exciting updates in TrueNAS 12.0-BETA2!

TrueNAS 12.0-BETA2 is HERE! iXsystems, the makers of TrueNAS, have just announced the general availability of the highly anticipated update. With over 175 bug fixes, TrueNAS 12.0-BETA2 brings us one step closer to the full Release version. This is exciting news for all TrueNAS users, as the update promises to enhance user experience and improve performance.

TrueNAS CORE – the successor to FreeNAS – is just one of the three versions of TrueNAS Open Storage software, alongside TrueNAS Enterprise and TrueNAS SCALE. With its modern interface and advanced features, TrueNAS CORE has become a popular choice for users looking for a reliable open-source storage system.

The latest release includes major changes to the ZFS filesystem, as it now incorporates all the features of ZFS on Linux (ZoL) which is set to be released in OpenZFS 2.0. Other significant improvements include:

– ZFS Native Crypto – Per dataset encryption and support for encrypted replication to untrusted targets.
– 2-Factor Authentication – Provides an extra layer of security with the use of applications like "Google Authenticator" for UI or SSH access.
– KMIP Support – TrueNAS Enterprise can now communicate with KMIP servers for the storage and retrieval of passwords and encryption keys.
– Performance Boosts – Major updates have been made to improve performance in areas such as SMB, iSCSI, ZFS, and more.
– API Keys – Configuration of TrueNAS can now be done using TrueNAS API v2.0, which also supports remote access with keys. Note that TrueNAS API v1.0 is no longer supported.
– Fusion Pools – Creation of pools with all-flash vdevs that store metadata and small-block IO, resulting in flash-like performance with the cost-effectiveness of spinning disks.
– VPN Support – TrueNAS can now act as both an OpenVPN Server and Client, catering to various VPN needs.

Apart from these updates, iXsystems has also made a range of other bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements to the UI and APIs. The company has also revamped its Documentation with a focus on simplifying and speeding up the deployment of TrueNAS in diverse storage environments.
